Cookology Ovens FAQs

  • What brand of oven is best?

There’s no single “best” brand of oven, as the right choice depends on your budget, desired features and available space. At Cookology, we offer a wide range of ovens to suit every kitchen style, cooking habit and preference.

  • Which kind of oven is best?

The best type of oven depends on your cooking needs. Electric ovens are energy-efficient and offer even heating, gas ovens provide instant temperature control, and fan-assisted ovens ensure consistent results. For those with limited space, built-in ovens are a practical and stylish choice.

  • Are gas ovens being phased out?

Gas ovens aren’t being completely phased out. While there’s increasing momentum around switching to electric cookers, gas ovens are not currently banned, and there is no blanket, government-mandated phase-out for existing gas cooking appliances. At Cookology, our product range is focused on electric ovens rather than gas ovens as we look to the future.

  • How many years should an electric oven last?

A well-maintained electric oven can typically last between 10 and 15 years. Naturally, the lifespan of an oven depends on usage, maintenance and the quality of the appliance.

  • What are the 4 types of ovens?

The four main types of Cookology ovens are:

    1. Single ovens – A single oven has one oven cavity. These are ideal for smaller kitchens.
    2. Double ovens – A double oven is built with two cavities. This can be particularly useful for those who are cooking and need two different temperatures – for example, roast beef in one and Yorkshire puddings in the other.
    3. Built-in ovens – A built-in oven is installed directly into your kitchen cabinetry, often at around eye level.
    4. Built-under ovens – A built-under oven is designed to sit underneath a kitchen worktop; these can then be paired with a separate hob on top of the counter.
  • Do electric ovens use a lot of electricity?

Electric ovens do consume energy, but modern models are designed to be energy efficient. Most of our Cookology ovens are rated A and A+ for energy efficiency. Using a fan-assisted electric oven can reduce cooking times and help lower electricity usage, making them a more future-proofed purchased as energy costs rise.

  • Are built-in ovens a standard size?

Yes – most ovens are manufactured in standard sizes to fit within kitchen units. For example, a single oven is typically designed to fit a 60cm-wide space, with a few millimetres of clearance to allow for fitting. Double ovens are generally taller to accommodate the additional capacity. At Cookology, we offer several ovens with a reduced depth of 530mm, designed to make installation easier in tighter spaces where pipework may be present. See our Size Guide: Double vs Single Ovens for more details.
