About Our Range of Kitchen Extractor Fans

Tired of steamed-up windows, stuffy air and lingering cooking odours? A cooker hood extractor is exactly what you need. If you use your hob regularly – especially for frying or cooking rich, aromatic dishes – you’ll quickly see the benefits. Once switched on, you’ll notice a big reduction in steam and smoke (and fewer false fire alarms!).

Thanks to the built-in filtration systems fitted in every Cookology kitchen extractor hood, your kitchen will smell fresher for longer. Each model also includes a grease filter to help reduce grime build-up on your worktops and splashbacks. In short, they save you time, effort and hassle – all while keeping your kitchen cleaner and your home smelling fresh. Oh, and they look fantastic too.

At Cookology, we appreciate the importance of energy efficiency for our customers – especially when it comes to keeping energy costs low while maintaining great performance. That’s why our cooker hoods have achieved some of the industry’s top EU energy efficiency ratings thanks to our investment in EU energy A+ and A++ specifications.

It’s no surprise that extractor hoods are now considered a kitchen essential. At Cookology, you’ll find plenty of options to suit your space and style. With a wide variety of sizes, fittings, finishes and accessories, such as extractor fan filters, available, we’ve got everything you need to create your ideal kitchen extractor fan setup. Cooker Hoods & Kitchen Extractor Fans FAQs

  • What is the difference between an extractor fan and an extractor hood?

An extractor hood (or cooker hood) is the full appliance that sits above your hob. Inside it is an extractor fan, which draws in steam, smoke and odours from cooking. In short, the extractor fan is the mechanism, and the extractor hood is the appliance that houses it.

  • Is it illegal to not have an extractor fan in a kitchen in the UK?

No, it’s not illegal to have a kitchen without an extractor fan in the UK. However, UK building regulations do require proper ventilation, so if you don’t have a cooker hood extractor, you must have another form of ventilation – such as a window or wall vent – to remove steam and moisture.

  • What is the best type of extractor fan for a kitchen?

The best extractor fan for your kitchen depends on your layout and cooking style. Ducted extractor hoods vent air outside and are the most effective at removing steam and odours, while recirculating extractor fans use filters to clean and return air back into the kitchen – perfect for flats or spaces without external vents. If you have a kitchen island hob, a downdraft extractor could work better.

  • Do I need an electrician to fit a cooker hood?

In most cases, yes. It’s recommended to have a qualified electrician install your cooker hood extractor, especially if it requires hardwiring or changes to your electrical system. Some plug-in models can be installed without professional help, but for safety and compliance, professional installation is advised.

  • Do kitchen extractor fans need to vent outside?

Not always. You can choose between ducted (vented) and recirculating extractor hoods. Ducted models extract air outdoors through a vent, while recirculating versions use charcoal filters to trap grease and odours before releasing clean air back into your kitchen.

  • Do you really need an extractor fan in a kitchen?

While not legally required in every home, a kitchen extractor fan is highly recommended. It helps remove grease, steam, and strong odours, preventing condensation and staining on walls and ceilings. A good extractor fan also improves air quality and makes your kitchen a more comfortable place to cook.
