We’re going to be looking at double ovens compared to single ovens, electric and gas oven features, as well as offering advice around oven size. We’ll even be taking a look at which oven is the best for baking. No matter what you’re looking for, you’re bound to find the right Cookology oven for you in our extensive range.
Which type of oven is best?
When it comes to looking at which oven you should choose, there are two main fuel choices: gas ovens or electric ovens. Each has its own benefits and each comes with its own features. Knowing which oven is the best for you comes down to the type of cooking that you do as well as the space that you have available. Here’s a look at the differences between the fuel types:
Gas ovens
Gas ovens provide what is largely viewed as a traditional way to cook. One of the best gas oven features is that they provide moist cooking conditions. This means that they are perfect for cooking juicy, succulent roasts and provide ideal conditions for your bakes to rise. Gas ovens are often significantly cheaper to run than electric ovens.
Electric ovens
Electric ovens are ideal for someone who does general, everyday cooking. They are extremely easy to use and even a novice can produce some great dishes. When it comes to electric oven features, these will usually now come with a fan. A fan ensures that the heat is spread evenly within the oven and means that you can cook to perfection (though fans can often be noisy when left on).

Electric oven features
If you decide that an electric oven is right for you then you are not alone. Electric Cookology ovens are the modern alternative to gas and allow you to cook efficiently. One of the key electric oven features to consider is the type of fan, if any, that your oven has. Here’s a look at the available options:
Forced fan oven
A forced fan oven, as the name suggests, has a fan at the back. This has a heating element with the fan and this ensures that the oven is heated evenly. No matter what shelf or level you are cooking on, the heat will be equal and stable. This is perfect for those large meals that include multiple elements to be cooked at once.
Fan assisted oven
Similar to the forced fan oven, a fan-assisted oven also has a fan at the back, but this time there is no heating element with it. Instead, there are two heating elements: one at the top and one at the bottom. These types of ovens provide gentle heat and are great for delicate dishes.
Conventional oven
A conventional electric oven has no fans at all. This means that cooking times tend to be longer, but the heat is gentler. The slight issue here is that the heat can be unstable and fluctuate while you are actually cooking. While an oven with a fan is more energy-efficient, conventional ovens don’t have any cold spots like some fan ovens can get.
Double oven vs single
Another consideration when it comes to deciding which oven is right for you is looking at whether a double or single is the most suitable. When looking at single vs double oven, here are the key points that you’ll need to know:
Single oven
A single oven offers a compact option for cooking and baking. There is one large area with a standard size of 64 litres. There will be an oven and grill in the same area which means that these can’t be used at the same time. There are some single ovens that get as large as 115 litres. Regardless of size, you can expect oven features such as fans, special cooking modes, and even self-cleaning. These ovens are perfect for a smaller kitchen space. While single ovens may be smaller, they are cheaper to run than double ovens and don’t take up as much space. One of the clever features of a single oven is the handy storage space that can often be found, perfect for trays and pans.
Double oven
If you have more space, or if you have a growing family, a double oven is likely to be perfect for you. With the main oven having a capacity of 50 litres – 75 litres, the top oven usually brings an extra 35 litres to 60 litres. With these double ovens, you can also use the grill at the same time which means there is much more flexibility. Cookology’s modern designs and increased cooking capabilities means that a double oven can add value to your home as well as reduce cooking time and increase the amount you can cook at once.
Oven size guide
As well as looking at oven features one of the most important considerations is oven size. You need to be sure that your perfect Cookology oven is going to fit into the kitchen space that you have available. When looking at this, there are two types of ovens to think about: built-in and built-under:
Built-under ovens
These are popular in modern kitchens and occupy space where you would have a kitchen cupboard. As they are integrated, they sit on the floor underneath your countertop so you are not giving up any vital space. Integrated built-under ovens are often sleek and ideal for those brand new kitchens with slightly larger cavities than one of the cavities in a double oven. They can be built-in under a hob, or an eye-level cabinet.
Built-in ovens
These types of ovens can be placed at any height that works for you. Whether you want your oven at eye level or chest height, the choice is yours. A built-in Cookology oven is placed within a column cabinet and makes lifting dishes in and out of the oven much easier as there’s no bending required.
Oven measurements
When it comes to an oven size guide it is worth knowing that all types of ovens have a standard width: 60cm. The height and depth will depend on whether you have a single or double oven. With a single oven, you can expect a depth of between 53-57cm and a height of 57-60cm. A double oven will typically have a depth of around 60cm and a height of 58-65cm.
